Paul joined Nationwide in April 2010 as Head of Payments with accountability for the delivery of a full range of end to end payments services requirements for the Society and its 14 million members. The ways in which members interact with the Society is undergoing a dramatic transformation and, with the ‘Next Generation Payments’ portfolio, Paul has driven changes such as Paym, ApplePay and AndroidPay to deliver market leading services in the evolving digital marketplace.

Paul represents Nationwide on the Payments UK Board and a number of shareholding institutions on the board of Vocalink. As the initial chair of the Implementation Entity for the 9 largest UK current holding institutions to deliver API standards, Paul is working to define and explore the opportunity afforded by Open Banking for the industry and the Society’s members.

Previously, Paul spent 8 years with Barclays as Head of Payments Processing, covering global clearing and operational delivery responsibilities. Prior to this, he held positions within the general insurance industry.
Nationwide is the world’s largest building society as well as the second largest savings and mortgages provider in the UK. It is also a major provider of current accounts, credit cards, ISAs and personal loans.
